How the campaign works
- You start the campaign from the Campaign card in the main menu.
- Finishing a mission unlocks the next one. A saved mission can be picked up again from that mission's own page.
- A mission ends with one, two or three stars, depending on how fully you reach its goal. Miss one of its critical challenges and the mission fails.
- On top of the stars, every mission has an optional bonus goal, and meeting it earns that mission's medal.
- Missions ask you to make decisions, so most goals can be reached in more than one way.
- The manual suggests that newcomers play the first few missions, because they bring in the main parts of the game one at a time.
- The missions are set in the 20th and 21st centuries, and each one wraps a real-world transport problem in its own story.
- They draw on real events but are not meant as accurate history; the manual calls them mainly entertainment.
What the manual does not say
- How to earn each star and medal. The manual lists the goals but gives no walkthroughs.
- What the extra help for two and three stars in Saving Mardi Gras is, and what the medal goal behind “Cheers!” in Big City Problems asks for.
- Starting years, starting money and how long a mission takes. Only Alpine Crossing's star goals name years (1923 and 1924).
- Whether a finished mission can be replayed for more stars. The manual only says saved missions can be picked up again.
Frequently asked questions
How many missions does the Transport Fever 3 campaign have?
Eight: Saving Mardi Gras (New Orleans), Alpine Crossing (Domodossola), Desert Adventure (Wadi Rum), Biggest Festival Ever (Bethel), Oil for the People (Ekofisk), Island Expansion (Manila), Big City Problems (Adelaide), and Final Countdown (Tanegashima). The missions are set in the 20th and 21st centuries, and each one wraps a real-world transport problem in its own story.
What is campaign mission 3?
Desert Adventure, set in Wadi Rum, Jordan. Lead Nasra's expedition across the desert and dig up the artifacts. One star: finish the excavations. Two stars: finish the excavations with fewer than 3 trucks lost. Three stars: finish the excavations without losing a single truck. Medal: recover the remains.
How do stars and medals work?
A mission ends with one, two or three stars, depending on how fully you reach its goal. Miss one of its critical challenges and the mission fails. On top of the stars, every mission has an optional bonus goal, and meeting it earns that mission's medal.
Do the missions unlock in order?
Yes. Finishing a mission unlocks the next one. A saved mission can be picked up again from that mission's own page.
Should beginners start with the campaign?
The manual suggests that newcomers play the first few missions, because they bring in the main parts of the game one at a time. Missions ask you to make decisions, so most goals can be reached in more than one way.
Is the signal task in mission 2 (Alpine Crossing) fixed?
Two fixes so far. Version 40417, a preview build from October 2, 2026: mission 2 no longer throws an error when you load a save after bulldozing the tracks of the signal-building task. Version 40419, a preview build from October 6, 2026: mission 2 now copes with older saves in which the signal-building task was left in a broken state. So far the fixes are only in preview builds, not in the release build.
Which achievements come from the campaign?
Four: The Journey Begins (finish the campaign's first mission), Story Master (finish every campaign mission), Story Legend (earn all the stars in every campaign mission), and Phalerist (collect every medal the campaign hands out).
Are the missions historically accurate?
No. They draw on real events but are not meant as accurate history; the manual calls them mainly entertainment.
