How updates arrive
Steam, the Epic Games launcher and GOG Galaxy download new versions by themselves. Without GOG Galaxy, download the latest build from your GOG library. Consoles install updates on their own at the next chance. Every major update is announced on the official website and on Steam.
Try the preview branch on Steam
Upcoming fixes often reach Steam's preview branch before the main version. To switch:
- Close the game.
- In your Steam Library, right-click Transport Fever 3 and choose Properties.
- Under Game Versions & Betas, pick preview from the list.
- You can switch back at any time.
- The preview build is always the same as the main build or newer.
- It may be less stable, so save under a new name before you play on it.
- A save made in a newer preview build may not load in an older release.
- Some mods can break after an update until their authors catch up.
How we keep this page current
We read the official release notes and Steam announcements and add each new version here, rewritten in plain English, with a note on whether it changes the data in our tools and guides. As of October 6, 2026, the newest official announcement on Steam is still the launch post, and the preview fixes so far are listed only in the release notes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the latest version of Transport Fever 3?
The current release builds are 40408 on Steam, 40393 on the Epic Games Store and GOG, 40397 on PlayStation and 40384 on Xbox, all from September 29, 2026. Steam's preview branch is at 40419, from October 6, 2026.
How do I check which version I have?
The build number is shown in the bottom right corner of the main menu. Compare it with the list on this page or with the official release notes.
How do I join the preview branch on Steam?
Close the game. In your Steam Library, right-click Transport Fever 3 and choose Properties. Under Game Versions & Betas, pick preview from the list. You can switch back at any time.
Can I go back from the preview branch?
Yes, at any time. But a save made in a newer preview build may not load in an older release, so save under a new name before you try the preview.
Do updates change the numbers on this site?
Not so far: none of the four preview builds since launch changed the industry, cargo, vehicle or map data we use. Each update on this page says whether it does.
Where are the official patch notes?
In the release notes on the official manual site, wiki.transportfever3.com, with a separate page for PlayStation and Xbox. Every major update is announced on the official website and on Steam.
Guides and tools
Our guides are checked against the version listed on each page: Town Growth, Noise and Pollution, Company Ranks, Perks & Prospecting, Why Cargo Won't Unload, Map Sizes and Experimental Maps, and Vehicle Unlock Dates. The production chain planner and Industries and Cargo Types follow the same rule.
