Why Transport Fever 3 starts in 1900
Transport Fever 2 covers 1850 to today. In Transport Fever 3, the earliest start year is 1900. In a comment on the official website on November 4, 2025, UG Sam from Urban Games explained that development focused on the start year most players already used, so more time could go into later years and the buildings that belong to them. Older trains and ships are the trade-off. Which vehicles each start year gives you is in the vehicle unlock dates.

Frequently asked questions
Is Transport Fever 3 better than Transport Fever 2?
That depends on what you want from it. By the official lists, Transport Fever 3 has more vehicles (275+ against over 200), a fourth climate, helicopters, cargo trams and warehouses, and it runs on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as well. Transport Fever 2 covers more history: it goes back to 1850, while Transport Fever 3 starts in 1900.
What's new in Transport Fever 3?
Among the things its official feature list names and Transport Fever 2's Steam page does not: a subarctic climate, dynamic weather with a day-night cycle, helicopters, light rail and cargo trams, warehouses, offshore industries, towns that grow by district, lane control with overtaking, and loans and contracts. This list compares the two official feature lists. A feature missing from Transport Fever 2's list does not prove that the older game had nothing like it.
Does Transport Fever 3 start in 1850 like Transport Fever 2?
No. A free game starts in any decade from 1900 to 2020. UG Sam from Urban Games explained that development focused on the start year most players already used, so more time could go into later years and the buildings that belong to them. Older trains and ships are the trade-off.
Can you use Transport Fever 2 mods in Transport Fever 3?
Not directly. Transport Fever 2 mods do not run in Transport Fever 3 as they are, but their authors can adapt them. There is no Steam Workshop. Urban Games built a single mod browser into the game, run by mod.io, so players on Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, PlayStation and Xbox all get the same mods. You can still download and share mods by hand outside it.
Do Transport Fever 2 owners get Transport Fever 3 cheaper?
Yes, until October 13, 2026: owners of Transport Fever 2 get 10% off the Standard and Deluxe Editions if they buy or pre-order Transport Fever 3 on the platform where they own Transport Fever 2, using that same account.
